PREPARATION GUIDE
How to Prepare for Your Family Session
Choose your colors, not matching outfits
The most beautiful family portraits come from coordinated, not identical, outfits. Pick a palette of 2–3 soft neutral or muted tones (cream, beige, olive, dusty blue, warm brown) and mix textures like knits, linen and lace. Avoid big logos, neon colors and busy patterns. Send me photos of your outfit ideas before the session and I’ll happily help you put everything together.
Dress from the shoes up
Shoes show in full-length portraits, so choose clean, simple shoes that match your palette. Make sure clothes are ironed and fit well, especially for the little ones.
Plan around your little ones
Book a time when your children are usually rested and happy, never right before a nap. Bring a favorite snack (nothing messy or colorful like red juice or chocolate), water and a small toy. A happy child makes the best photos.
Arrive a few minutes early
Give yourselves 10–15 minutes to settle in, use the restroom and fix hair before we start. Rushing makes everyone tense; arriving early makes everyone smile.
Hair and grooming
A fresh haircut a week before the session looks most natural. Moms, consider professional hair and makeup, and dads, a clean shave or neatly trimmed beard the day before.
Relax, I’ll guide you
You don’t need any posing experience. I guide every pose, angle and grouping and keep the session light, playful and fun, especially for kids. Your only job is to enjoy this time together.

Questions Families Often Ask
Where do family sessions take place?
Studio sessions take place in my private studio in Lyman, SC, just outside Greenville. Prefer the outdoors? Take a look at my Outdoor Family Sessions at local parks and your home.
How many people can be in the photos?
Each package includes up to 5 immediate family members. Additional family members, grandparents and extended family are always welcome for an additional fee.
What should we wear?
Choose coordinated colors rather than matching outfits: soft neutrals and muted tones photograph beautifully. Every Gold and Platinum package includes a personal styling consultation, and I’m happy to review your outfit ideas before the session.
My kids are very active. Will they cooperate?
Absolutely, I’ve photographed hundreds of families with toddlers and busy kids. I use games, jokes and lots of patience, and we take breaks whenever needed. Real laughter makes the best photos.
Can we bring our pet?
Of course! Just let me know when booking so we can plan the session.
When will we receive our photos?
After the session you’ll receive a private online gallery to choose your favorites. Your fully retouched images are delivered within 2 weeks after you make your selection.
Can we get more images than our package includes?
Yes. After your session you’ll see your full gallery and can add more retouched images to your package.
How do we reserve our date?
Choose your package and tap “Prices & Book”. A non-refundable deposit reserves your date and is applied toward your package. Need to reschedule because of illness? Just let me know at least 72 hours in advance and we’ll move your session.
